Is my load free to collect?

Many pallets look like an Australian Standard but are not. Only two sizes qualify for free collection, and a tape measure tells you in ten seconds.

The tape measure test

Measure two sides of one pallet. An Australian Standard pallet is square: 1165 mm by 1165 mm.

If one side is longer than the other, it is a different size, even if it looks the same. The only rectangular pallet we collect for free is the Euro pallet, 1200 x 800 mm.

How pallet removal works

  • Step 1 Send photos

    Email photos of your pallets and roughly how many to sales@toppallets.com.au, or use our quote form.

  • Step 2 We assess

    We tell you whether your load qualifies for free collection, paid removal or mulching, and book a day.

  • Step 3 Stack and load

    Stack similar pallets together in straight stacks of about 15. A forklift, or two people to load, is all it takes.

  • Step 4 Collected

    The truck collects on the booked day and your pallets are reused or recycled.

Getting your pallets ready

  • Stack by type. Keep Australian Standard, Euro and odd sizes in separate straight stacks of about 15.
  • Keep broken timber apart. Loose boards and smashed pallets go in their own pile so the reusable ones still qualify.
  • Clear access. The truck needs room to pull up next to the stacks.
  • No forklift? Two people can hand-load, or we can send a tail-lift truck for an extra fee.

Up to around 210 pallets fit on one truck. Bigger quantities are collected over more than one load.

Certificates of Recycling for your ESG reporting

Ask for a Certificate of Recycling and we will issue one after every collection. It shows the pallet count, the estimated timber weight and the CO2-e avoided, with the method footnoted (Australian National Greenhouse Accounts Factors).

Need a year in one document? We also prepare period reports by site and by treatment pathway, listing every collection with our job reference.

Pallet removal FAQs

Is pallet removal free?

Yes, for 20 or more reusable Australian Standard (1165 x 1165 mm) or Euro pallets in metro Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. The minimum can depend on distance. Other pallets go through our paid removal service, quoted after we see photos.

How do I know if my pallets are Australian Standard?

Measure them. An Australian Standard pallet is square, 1165 x 1165 mm. Pallets that are longer one way (such as 1200 x 1000 or US 1219 x 1016 mm) are a different size even when they look alike. If in doubt, email us a photo with a tape measure across the pallet.

Which pallets can you not take for free?

Broken pallets, loose timber and weathered pallets that are falling apart. A free load should have no more than one or two broken boards per pallet, across less than 10% of the pallets. Damaged loads can go to our mulching service instead.

How much does paid pallet removal cost?

It depends on the number of pallets, their sizes and condition, and where you are. Send us photos and a rough count and we will send you a written quote.

Do you take plastic pallets?

Yes. Plastic pallets are collected through our paid removal service and are reused or recycled.

How many pallets fit on one truck?

Up to around 210 pallets per truck. Larger quantities are collected over more than one truck.

Do I need a forklift?

A forklift makes loading quick, but two people can hand-load. If neither is possible, we can book a tail-lift truck for an extra fee.

Which areas do you cover?

Metro Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. We do not currently service Tasmania. For regional sites, call us on 1800 867 725 and we will see what we can do.

Can I get a certificate for our sustainability report?

Yes. We can issue a Certificate of Recycling for every collection, and a period report covering all your sites and collections for a financial year or half year.
